FAQs
How do I get to the hostel?
There are many ways to get to the hostel, some quicker than others. However, for any of them, allow between 35 and 60 minutes. Be careful with the traffic early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Let's go.
From the airport
Metro and train
From T1, T2 and T3, take the metro (line 8) to Nuevos Ministerios. From there, you can take the train to Sol station in about 5 minutes (lines C4A, C4B or C3). The journey time is approximately 40 minutes and the cost is about €5 per person.
Metro
From either metro station (Airport T1, T2, T3 or Airport T4), take line 8 to the last stop (Nuevos Ministerios) and change to line 10, direction Puerta del Sur, to Tribunal station. There you should take line 1, direction Valdecarros, and get off at Sol station. The journey takes approximately 50 minutes.
Taxi
Since 2014, there is a flat rate of €33 for transfers from the airport to the centre of Madrid. The journey takes around 35 minutes during normal times and up to 60 minutes at the beginning and end of the day. Beware of traffic jams and taxi drivers, the price is per journey, not per person.
From the Puerta de Atocha train station
From the South Bus Station
Do you have parking?
We have something better, an agreement with a Low cost Parking just 1,2 KM from the hotel. Three times cheaper than any parking in the centre. Ask at reception upon arrival.
What is the best way to get around Madrid?
Well, the truth is that, given our location, the best way to get around is on foot or by bicycle. If you need to go to more distant places, it is best to travel by Metro and Bus during the day and by Taxi at night. Good news, Madrid Taxis are almost the cheapest in Europe.
What time can we check in?
You can check in from 15pm. Our reception colleagues are at your disposal 24 h, so don't worry, there will always be someone who can help you. If you arrive early, we have a space with lockers where you can leave your luggage and go for a walk or have a drink.
Can I extend my check out?
Sure, just let us know so we can be ready for your departure. Late check-out is subject to availability and has a small charge, please ask at reception.
Do we need to bring sheets, towels and locks for the lockers?
Don't worry, we'll provide the sheets. As for towels and padlocks, we can rent both so you don't have to bring them. Towels cost €3 to rent and padlocks cost €2.
How does breakfast work?
Breakfast hours are from 7:30 am to 10:30 am. The breakfast rate includes coffee, milk, toast, fruit and yogurt. You can complement it with other products that we will make available to you at a very affordable price.
What are the best areas to go out at night?
Well, it depends on what you're looking for: mainstream music, electronic clubs, alternative rock...etc.
We highlight the following neighborhoods: La Latina, Malasaña, Chueca and Huertas. A little further from the Hostel you can go to Castellana and Alberto Alcocer.
Check out our Madrid Guide section, where you can see the best options by music style and area.
Any tips for going out at night?
In Madrid, everything starts very, very late. Clubs usually start filling up from 2 am, so we recommend you plan your night out well. The normal thing is to go to dinner between 9:30 and 10:30 pm, then continue with what we call the “first drink” which usually lasts until 2 am. From there, it’s all straight ahead…
And to go out during the day?
In Madrid we have a very healthy custom, we call it “taking the aperitif”. It consists of meeting up with friends before lunch on Saturdays and Sundays to have a “caña” or a “vermouth”. Normally, you never eat at home and you never come back sober. The best area for this is La Latina, we recommend you go there on Saturdays and Sundays from 1 pm to infinity.
Any recommendation?
In our section "Madrid guide"You can find the best selection of tapas bars, restaurants... everything that doesn't appear in the Lonely Planet.
Shopping?
You've come to the right place, from our Hostel you are just a few minutes walk from Sol, Gran Vía, Fuencarral, Chueca... so close that you can walk back with your bags.
Within 5 minutes by metro or bus you can visit the Salamanca district, Alonso Martínez or Calle Barquillo. Areas worth visiting if you are a bit more discerning.
In section "Madrid guide” you can find our recommendations.
Where can I eat a good paella?
We have a high regard for food. Eating a good paella is a difficult task even for a Madrilenian; you will have to go a little further away from the centre and be prepared to spend a little more money.
We will never recommend a place that we wouldn't go to ourselves. Take note, the 3 best paella places in Madrid are Casa Benigna, Saint James and Samm.
Expensive, good, real paella.

Can you help me get tickets for football or shows?
From the hotel reception we will help you find all the tickets you need.
Can I leave my luggage at the hostel after check-out?
We store your luggage for free before check-in. At check-out, it is free until 14pm (afterwards it costs €3 per customer) so you can enjoy the last hours in Madrid without having to carry your suitcase.
Can minors stay?
The Hat Madrid accepts reservations with minors as long as they are accompanied by adults. In addition, they must be accommodated in rooms with a private bathroom, and not share with other guests not on their reservation.
Is this a reservation for more than 10 people?
