Sustainability

Sustainable by nature, human by choice.

At The Hat we believe that sustainability is not a trend or a requirement, but a way of being in the world.

We like to think (and we're certain of it) that every gesture, every decision, and every person who comes through our doors can contribute to leaving a lighter footprint and a kinder environment. That's why we take such care in everything we do, and since we opened, we've tried to ensure that every action, from how we heat the water to how we interact with the neighborhood, has a responsible, human, and lasting purpose.

We heat the building with biomass, a clean energy source that allows us to reduce emissions and use natural resources responsibly. We use eco-friendly cleaning products and limit our paper use to the bare minimum, because we know that small habits make a big difference.

Our cuisine is also part of that philosophy: we are committed to local food, seasonal ingredients, Spanish recipes and local suppliers who share our values.

The same goes for the furniture: we designed the bunk beds and tables in iron and wood with artisans from Madrid, who know our space and fill it with life.

But for us, sustainability isn't just measured in numbers or certifications. It's also about people. That's why we collaborate with employment centers for people with disabilities, lend our space to local arts associations, and organize free English classes for children in the area.
Because we want The Hat to be more than a hostel, we want it to be a meeting point, an extended family in the heart of Madrid.

All of this has led us to obtain the Hostelworld sustainability seal, a recognition that makes us proud, but above all, motivates us to keep improving. Because being sustainable isn't just about taking care of the planet, but also about taking care of people, the neighborhood, and the energy we share every day.

At The Hat, we believe that living well means living consciously, respectfully, and with a desire to contribute. And that, more than a promise, is a way of being. Our way of being.
